Every year, our Professional Writing department invites Gary Hensley (former IRS agent, TurboTax advisor, and currently an accountant) to talk to our students about acting like the professional writers they are and filing their taxes as such. (And, incidentally, Gary is Dr. Hensley’s brother!) Gary helps us understand how to track expenses and what can be put on a Schedule C, even if we aren’t technically an official business. In reality, if we’re writing, we’re in the business of being writers.
Gary spoke in four classes and spent much time giving us advice and guidance for tracking our activities as writers.
Gary also maintains a website called Tax Solutions for Writers.
