Dr. Dennis E. Hensley, director of the Professional Writing Department (PWR), believes that writing is hard work. But he also believes that when you accomplish something hard, there’s nothing wrong with feeling accomplished. So, just outside his university office he created a brag board: a massive display featuring the names and faces of PWR majors next to copies of their published works. Now you can enjoy a virtual—and much smaller—version of that.

PWR Senior Named Finalist in Simon&Schuster’s Student Novel Competition

Taylor University senior and Jerry B. Jenkins Scholarship recipient Chandler Birch has been named one of ten finalists in the Simon451 Student Novel Competition. Sophomores Receive Jenkins Endowed Scholarship

Charnell Peters of Bedford, Indiana, and Amy Gaasrud of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, are the winners of the 2014 Jerry B. Jenkins Professional Writing Scholarships for upperclassmen. The Jenkins Scholarships were established at Taylor in 2003 by author Jerry B. Jenkins, author of the Left Behind series of novels. They are awarded to one incoming freshman and two upperclassmen.

Los Angeles Film Studies School

This fall, PWR student Jeremy Paul travelled to LA to study script writing for part of his coursework at Taylor. Next year, the PWR program will send student Caitlin Vukorpa to the school.

PWR Senior Wins First Place at Berne Literary Festival

Drew Neuenschwander (’13) took top honors in the Berne Literary Festival’s Speculative Fiction Writing Contest.

PWR Student Publishes Novel Series

Amy Green (’13) has already published  four Moonbeam Award-winning children’s books: the Amarias Series. The first in the series, Quest for the Scorpion’s Jewel, was published when she was still a sophomore at Taylor!

PWR Students to Attend Conference in Colorado Springs

Write-to-Publish Conference 2012

Many PWR students receive scholarships to attend Write-to-Publish in the Chicago area. Others work in registration and marketing in exchange for free attendance.

PWR Students Co-Author Devotional Books

One of the most exciting elements of Taylor’s Professional Writing Program is the opportunity for students to be published in books and magazines–sometimes as early as their freshman year! These students hold copies of books where they contributed stories and devotionals. These include Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus (Worthy Publishing, 2011) and Heaven Calling (Worthy Publishing, 2010).
