Your instructors are Professional Writing grad Contessa Hussong (2025) and Multimedia Journalism student Caleb Heffron (2026). Caleb and Contessa have been interested in comic books for their entire lives and are excited to share their knowledge with you. This session began as an independent study where they created a series of weekly classes taught to interested students during the Fall 2024 semester.

This conference is for all types of writers—beginners who have never been to a conference, teens (16+) who want to explore their desire to write, older folks who finally want to put pen to paper, and even seasoned writers who just want to soak in some training and be around other writers. This is a perfect conference to begin or continue your writing journey.
Writers’ conferences are an important part of our training in the Professional Writing major, which is why we hold them and attend them every year.
Sadly, there was no Spring 2020 retreat due to COVID-19, but the Pro-Write planning committee more than made up for that with the Fall 2020
This Fall, the Professional Writing majors had an Avatar themed retreat! Food, fun and writing was enjoyed by all!
